This Marine Technology TV interview features Kraken Robotics President and CEO Greg Reid discussing the company’s defence and commercial solutions for sensors and subsystems at Oceanology International 2026. Kraken Robotics highlighted its expanding portfolio of advanced subsea technologies designed to support defence and offshore energy customers around the world. Greg discussed the company’s latest innovations, ongoing product development, and recent strategic growth initiatives during an interview at the exhibition.
Reid described Kraken Robotics as a marine technology company that develop technologies used to support subsea operations. The company manufactures the majority of its products in North America and Europe while serving customers across global defence and commercial markets.
Among the technologies on display was KATFISH, the company’s towed synthetic aperture sonar system. Originally developed for naval mine countermeasure applications, KATFISH is used by defence customers including the Danish, Polish, Australian and US navies to conduct high-resolution seabed mapping and underwater inspections. The system has been introduced to commercial markets, where it supports offshore wind and oil and gas projects requiring efficient wide-area seabed surveys.
Reid also highlighted Kraken’s subsea battery technology, which provides autonomous underwater vehicles with significantly greater energy density and operational endurance than conventional battery systems. To support growing demand, the company recently opened a new battery manufacturing facility in Halifax, complementing its existing operations in Germany.
Looking ahead, Reid discussed the pending acquisition of Covelya Group, he says “It’s a win-win for our customers, it’s a win-win for job creation, it’s a win-win for our employees.”
The acquisition will expand Kraken’s capabilities in subsea navigation, positioning, and communications while creating opportunities to deliver more integrated solutions to existing customers.
